I'm looking at the rush starting from the other direction.
Let's put it this way: Why WOULDN'T Putin, especially if he forged an >alliance with Xi, go for the entire European continent in retaliation
for sanctions, what have you, at the barest of minimum?
Mike (AND gamble that about 1/3 - 40% of Americans will support him,
creating HOT Civil War if Biden tries to stop him?)

FIFY, not that I think it's going to matter.
I have to think the over-under on a mass bombing of a major European soccer match is about 2-4 weeks.

Poland just refused their play-off game against Russia!

They can still play the matches amongst each other inside Russia.

FIFA would have cancelled the game anyway if the situation continued in Ukraine...
In fact Russia will probably find themselves a sporting pariah if their military aggression continues. Nobody will play them in anything then!

A decision that seems completely out of tune with those taken in the Worlds of football, F1 and even the Eurovision Song Contest!

Gazprom would lead to a shift in attitude regarding the SuperLeague, especially in England, but here we see a league
*owned* by the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona actually doing much worse.
Ciao,
Werner
So things have moved on - Euroleague has now suspended the Russian clubs and "should the situation [with regards to the war in Ukraine] not evolve in a favorable way" matches involving Russian teams will be annulled. Of course, you could argue that the EU ban on Russian flights had already effectively prevented the Russian clubs from competing in any event.RM
It seems the sporting World is uniting in condemning Russia's
attack on Ukraine.
