    Sheffield Shield is Proper Cricket: so good to be able to watch it,
    even if the timings are not so great for us in the UK, but miles
    better than the other options(!)

    There was a thriller in the Plunket Shield too: Auckland beating
    Central Districts by 25 runs after the latter almost got over the line
    with partnerships of 102 for the 8th wicket and 41 for the 10th.
    Doug Bracewell was last out for 102 coming in at eight.

    I didn't see any of it, but I notice that there was a bit of an opening partnership for Victoria v SA: 486 between Will Pucovski (255*) and Marcus Harris (239), including batting through the whole of Saturday together.

    That's the highest partnership for any wicket in Shield history (beating the Waugh twins' 464*), but not the highest in FC cricket in Australia (503 between Ryan Carters and Aaron Finch for Cricket Australia XI v New
    Zealanders in 2015/16). It's also the 6th-highest opening stand in all FC matches.
